MAGS GAGS

The acronym GAGS stands for Grande Anello del Gran Sasso. The route was conceived and designed to be covered exclusively by Mountain Bike or Trekking. With a length of 212 km and 6330 metres of positive altitude difference, it is the most physically demanding route. Ancient villages, unspoilt nature and mountains are the key elements that will accompany you on this route. The route of Le Vie del Mags will test you the most. The departure is in the village of Arsita. The Collecerri climb leads up to the shirt where you can stop at the Faiani refuge. You go down towards Castelli to climb up to the sources of the Ruzzo. Continue towards Isola del Gran Sasso (Km 33 point Mags). Continuing first on the state road and then on the cart track, you will find the villages of Azzinano and Cusciano. After about 30 km you will arrive at the Cervo inn (Mags point). At km 80, turn left onto the Provvidenza dam which leads to the Chiarino valley and to the Fioretti Refuge (Km 86). The small church of San Vincenzo introduces the vast high altitude meadows. Then you arrive at the Vasto Valley, on a cart track that leads to the “cave in Male”. You reach Fonte Cerreto (Km 121 point Mags), seat of the Gran Sasso cableway. Going up on the state road 17 bis at km 127, turn right towards Campo Imperatore. The path descends to Santo Stefano di Sessanio to continue towards Rocca Calascio and Castel del Monte (km 157 point Mags). Continue towards vado San Cristoforo and, through the Valianara Canyon, you will reach the Mucciante restaurant and the Ricotta refuge. Passing through Vallestrina, you reach the Voltigno plateau (Km 184 point Mags). Descend towards the Angri valley, the descent continues towards the Golden Calf waterfall in the Municipality of Farindola. Going up towards the town, head on the provincial road towards Rigopiano and on a dirt road you reach the starting point.
